 Director

 

dr. murali sundaram Dr. Murali Sundaram is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Cincinnati. He has ten years of industrial experience in precision manufacturing and three years of postdoctoral research experience in micro and nano manufacturing. Dr. Sundaram is a recipient of a Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award from the National Science Foundation. His research interests include Additive Manufacturing, Nano-Manufacturing, Nontraditional Machining, Micromachining, Hybrid Machining, CAD/CAM, Metrology and Process Simulation. Dr. Sundaram is advising/ has co-advised over 25 graduate students (including 6 Ph.D. students) and several undergraduate students. He has authored five book chapters and over 70 refereed publications. Dr. Sundaram serves as Associate Editor of SME's Journal of Manufacturing Processes, and is an International Editorial Review Board member of International Journal of Manufacturing, Materials and Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Sundaram is a member of ASME and SME.


Graduate Students (Ph.D)  

 

abishek balsamy kamaraj

Abishek Balsamy Kamaraj is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of  Cincinnati. He received his Master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati in October 2012, and Bachelor’s degree  in Mechanical Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India in September 2010. His  research focuses on electrochemical additive manufacturing. He was employed by Larsen and Toubro (India) as an  Engineering Trainee before he joined the University of Cincinnati. He is a member of the American Society for  Mechanical Engineers (ASME) since 2008. Apart from his research, he is actively associated with the Graduate Student Government and Indian Students Association at the University of Cincinnati.

Anne Brant is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. She  received her Master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati. As a graduate student, she has worked at the UC-P&G Simulation Center and as a fellow in the Cincinnati Engineering Enhanced Math and Science program. She is serving as the secretary of the Mechanical and Materials Graduate Student Association. Outside of engineering, she enjoys playing music and running.

 Yu-Jen Chen is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati (UC). He received his Master’s degree and Bachelor’s degree from Mechanical Engineering at National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan in September 2015, and June 2013 respectively. He was a research assistant at department of Mechanical Engineering at Chung Yuan University, Taiwan before joining UC. Outside of engineering, he enjoys reading novels.

Sravya Josyula is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science Engineering at UC. She has done her Masters from The University of Texas at Arlington and Bachelors from JNTU Hyderabad in India with academic projects from Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness (RCMA) and Vizag Steel Plant. Outside of engineering, she enjoys Traveling, Music and Meditation.

Vamshi Krishna Kore is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He completed his Bachelor of Technology from Vardhaman College of Engineering, JNTU, Hyderabad (India). He has worked at BHEL, Hyderabad for an academic project before joining University of Cincinnati. His field of research is Additive Manufacturing. Outside of engineering, he is passionate cricketer and has represented high school and university cricket teams.

Arham Ali is currently pursuing Master's in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He completed his Bachelor of Technology from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad (India). He worked as Junior Field Engineer at Halliburton Logging Services(HLS Asia Ltd.) in oil and gas exploration and as an Intellectual Property Researcher at CPA Global. His field of research is micro Laser Beam Machining. Outside of engineering, he is a badminton player and a long distance runner.

Sidney Cowen is currently pursuing his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics and Mathematics from Morehead State University. Outside of engineering, he enjoys reading, motorsports, and driving.

Andrea Grisell is currently pursuing a Master’s of Mechanical Engineering at University of Cincinnati. She received her Bachelor’s degree from University of Cincinnati. She has industry experience in metrology and development of consumer products and medical devices. Outside of engineering, she enjoys drawing and is the assistant coach for the UC Kendo Club.

 Vishnushankar Ramasamy is pursuing his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He received his Bachelor’s from Anna University, Chennai (India). His research is primarily focused on Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing. Outside of research, he builds 3D printer for hobby, design prosthetics for non-profitable organization, plays guitar, DIYs and loves to cook.

Vamsi Krishna Reddy K is currently pursuing a Master`s degree in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Cincinnati. He received his Bachelor`s degree from JNTU Kakinada, India in May 2017. During his UG, he worked on Aluminium Composites, Graphene coatings and Materials for Thermal Energy storage and Conversion, published the same. His Final year project is done in affiliation with Department of Chemical Engineering, Andhra university. Before joining UC, he worked as Visiting Research student at SEM and Thin films lab, Department of Physics, Sri Venkateswara University. Outside of engineering, he plays Ping Pong and enjoys travelling, meditation and learning new Languages.

 
 

  


Undergraduate Students

Ben Clark is a fifth-year undergraduate student studying Mechanical Engineering at The University of Cincinnati.  At the UC Micro and Nano Manufacturing Lab, he is working on experiments using ECDM.  He has industry experience working in medical devices and pharmaceuticals as a process engineer co-op.  Outside of research and engineering, Ben enjoys running, playing disc golf, and spending time with friends and family.

Ramitha Herath is a sophomore in Mechanical Engineering at UC. At the UCMAN lab, he is assisting with work on the Nano Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing process. Outside of the lab, he has a strong interest in aerospace and is part of the UC CubeCat's Software and Payload team for the 2018/2019 CATiSE (CubeCats Applied Training in Space Exploration) program. Outside of engineering and research, he enjoys participating in trivia, volunteering at a soup kitchen, and being an amateur chef.

Charlie Hoelscher is a sophomore at the University of Cincinnati who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Business Administration. He spent his first co-op rotation at Cincinnati Test Systems in Harrison, Ohio. Outside of the lab, he enjoys listening to music, working out, learning to swing dance, and reading.

Timothy Hutchins is an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student doing research in nano manufacturing using abrasives. Outside of engineering, he enjoys cooking, watching movies, and is a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

 Narek Manukyan is an undergraduate at the University of Cincinnati, and is pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, alongside a minor in English with a focus on Creative Writing (Poetry). He has been at the UCMAN laboratory for three co-op terms, as well as during the two study semesters in-between them. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys, in no particular order, writing, meditation, playing guitar and ukulele, traveling, exploring mother nature, reading, and photography.

Ben Morrow is an undergraduate at the University of Cincinnati, and is working toward a degree in Mechanical Engineering. This is his first semester working in the UCMAN lab, and previously he has worked in steel processing, cold flat rolling and slitting, at Worthington Industries. In his free time, he likes to relax and listen to music, watch football, hockey, and basketball, work out, hang out with friends, and keep up to speed on the latest in technology.

Natalie Reed is an undergraduate student at the University of Cincinnati pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. She is a member of the UC Engineers Without Borders and in her free time, she enjoys volunteering, baking bread, folding origami, and playing racquetball.

Liz Salai is in her second year of pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Outside of class work she enjoys creating computer aided designs and printing parts for the UC Chem-E car team and Robotics team. She is an active member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). She also enjoys volunteering her time to tutoring elementary school students through Bearcat Buddies and giving back to the community when possible.

Jeffrey Woodford is a fifth year undergraduate student studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He is working on toolpath generation for electcrochemical additive manufacturing. Previously, he worked with electrical discharge machining in the manufacturing of jet engine compressors and turbines. Outside of working in the lab, he enjoys watching Premier League soccer as well as motorsports, and anything involved with computer systems.

Yaqi Wu is currently a senior undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. She is working on the tool path generation for electrochemical additive manufacturing for her senior design project. She also spent her first two college years in Shanghai Jiao Tong University and is getting a dual degree. Out of school, she enjoys music and reading.

Hirdayesh B. Shrestha is an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student with research interests in ECDM and ECAM. He is now working on ECDM experiments in our lab.  In addition to research, he has completed five internships with the last two at Tesla, Inc. in Fremont, CA. For fun, he likes to explore new cities and try new restaurants. He also enjoys playing soccer.

 

 
 

Alexander Lathery is an undergraduate student studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He is now working on ECDM experiments in our lab. Outside of engineering he enjoys 3D printing, weightlifting, and reading.

Kristian  Abood is an Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student pursuing research in Electro-Chemical Discharge Machining (ECDM) process. He is now working on ECDM experiments in our lab. He was previously a Co-Op at The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company up in Akron,OH and worked with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), assisted in future development of TPMS, and performed bench-marking studies. With his time off, he likes to explore new places to eat, stay posted on the technology of tomorrow, watch sports, spend time with friends, and is always exploring new ways to stay active.

Jack Federico is an undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering alongside a Master’s in Engineering as part of UC’s accelerated degree program. He is now working on ECDM experiments in our lab. Outside of research in the lab, he enjoys spending time outdoors, finding new music, physical exercise, and wiring for UC’s robotics club.
